Help for families recovering from
Domestic Abuse
We recognise that supporting a child through domestic abuse recovery can be overwhelming. Mothers often feel helpless, unsure of how to provide reassurance or what steps to take next, so when working with women on their recovery, we extend our services to their children in our family unit approach.
Our family unit approach is designed to support mothers and their children aged 7-17.
By engaging in positive activities alongside trained facilitators, children can explore their emotions in a constructive and healthy way, reducing feelings of anxiety, frustration, or isolation. This programme is designed to work alongside parents and caregivers, rather than replacing the family’s role in their child’s recovery.

Our Family Unit Approach is particularly valuable for families who:
Are currently supporting children through the emotional effects of trauma
Wish to strengthen communication and understanding within the family
Want to ensure children receive guidance and reassurance during school holidays
Are looking for structured but welcoming wellbeing activities that feel accessible and inclusive.

How our children and young people programmes work
Our sessions prioritise emotional recovery, positive connection, and creative expression. We aim to foster environments where mothers and their children feel safe, valued, and empowered, allowing them to explore their thoughts and feelings without fear or judgment. Each session is designed to provide a balance between guided therapeutic activities and gentle, informal engagement, ensuring that children feel comfortable while developing meaningful coping strategies.
Our trained consultants lead sessions in Gloucester, Forest of Dean & Cheltenham, ensuring accessibility for families in their districts.
Each session with our consultants is carefully designed to:
-
Encourage positive emotional expression through creativity and guided discussion

-
Help children build resilience by offering tools to manage difficult thoughts and feelings

-
Strengthen family bonds by reinforcing the importance of support within the home environment

-
Provide a safe and understanding space where children feel heard and respected
A Holistic Approach to Wellbeing
We know that wellbeing is deeply personal, and no two children experience recovery in exactly the same way. That’s why our programme offers a varied and flexible approach, incorporating activities that encourage emotional expression through art, movement, storytelling.
Our Family Facilitators have put together some great activities suitable for different age groups and families to do together.
Our Young People Wellbeing Programme will run exclusively during half-term and school holidays, recognising that these periods can be particularly challenging for children who are processing trauma or navigating difficult emotions.
