Every survivor of domestic abuse deserves to be heard, protected, and treated fairly by the justice system. Yet recent events in Gloucestershire have left many questioning whether victims are receiving the support and justice they deserve.

At Honour Thy Woman Group Gloucestershire, we work closely with women rebuilding their lives after abuse. Sadly, the experiences we hear are often not isolated incidents. We currently support multiple clients whose stories share worrying similarities, highlighting concerns about how domestic abuse cases are handled and the challenges survivors face when seeking justice.

A Growing Concern in Our Community

Recent reports of a man in Minsterworth receiving 40 hours of community service for assaulting a woman have sparked public debate. At the same time, one of our own clients saw her case against her abuser dismissed entirely, despite enduring significant trauma and taking the courageous step of coming forward.

For many survivors, reporting abuse is one of the most difficult decisions they will ever make. It requires immense courage, trust in the justice system, and a belief that their voice matters. When cases are dismissed or outcomes appear disproportionate to the harm caused, it can leave survivors feeling unheard, unsupported, and reluctant to seek help in the future.

The concerns surrounding our client's case became so significant that they were raised in Parliament by a local MP. This demonstrates that these issues are not just personal tragedies affecting individual families. They are matters of public concern that require urgent attention and meaningful action.

When elected representatives bring these cases to a national platform, it sends a clear message that change is needed. However, awareness alone is not enough. Real change happens when communities unite and speak with one voice.
