Leading With Courage: Keasha’s Journey from Survivor to Changemaker and Why Her ASHA Centre Talk Matters

Leadership is often spoken about in terms of strategy, influence, and vision but rarely in terms of identity, healing, and the courage it takes to stand firmly in one’s truth. On the 18th of July, at a private event, Youth Interfaith Retreat, will host a powerful conversation led by Keasha, Founder, Chairwoman & CEO of Honour Thy Woman Group, whose work is reshaping how Gloucestershire understands domestic abuse, recovery, and community empowerment.
This event, Let’s Talk Leadership, brings together the Interfaith Youth Group and Honour Thy Woman Group for an evening dedicated to exploring what it truly means to lead from authenticity, lived experience, and unwavering values.
A Leader Forged Through Experience...Not Titles
Keasha founded Honour Thy Woman Group in March 2021, driven by her own lived experience of domestic abuse and a determination to ensure no woman in Gloucestershire feels alone, unseen, or unsupported. What began as a grassroots mission quickly evolved into a countywide movement.
Within just one year, she achieved what many organisations take years to accomplish:
Securing full charity status with the Charity Commission and HMRC
Building partnerships with experts, community leaders, and survivors
Establishing a trauma-informed, culturally diverse support network for women and children
Her leadership is not theoretical. It is lived, felt, and deeply rooted in understanding the barriers women face when seeking help.
A Recognised Force for Change
Keasha’s impact has been recognised across Gloucestershire and beyond. She is celebrated as:
Winner of the Ingenuity Programme (2022)
Entrepreneur of the Year
Community Impact of the Year
Third prestigious award for innovation and social change
One of the 50 Most Inspirational Women in Gloucestershire (2022)
Her reputation as a Creative Catalyst reflects her ability to turn adversity into action, and ideas into community transformation.
Why This Talk Matters
Leadership is often portrayed as polished, distant, or academic. But Keasha’s approach is different and urgently needed.
At the ASHA Centre, she will explore:
How leaders can maintain their power of identity
Why authenticity is a leader’s greatest asset
The importance of standing firm in your values
How lived experience can fuel positive change
What it means to build stronger, safer communities through compassion and courage
This is not just a talk! It is an invitation to rethink leadership entirely.
A Partnership Rooted in Purpose
The ASHA Centre, known for its commitment to youth empowerment, peacebuilding, and community development, is the perfect setting for this conversation. Their Interfaith Youth Group brings together young people from diverse backgrounds who are eager to learn, lead, and shape the future.
Together, Honour Thy Woman Group and the ASHA Centre are creating a space where leadership is not defined by hierarchy, but by humanity.
